Queen B’s Decree: I’m a nerd who loves the brain (neurocritical pharmacist here) so a book with two rival neuroscientists with forced proximity and fake dating? It’s like this book was made for me.
I couldn’t stop reading. Frances is so one-track minded, but I could empathize with her; being a woman in STEM (even if she’s in academia and I’m in healthcare) is a struggle. I’ve been in my field for a long time now, and I’ve learned you 100% have to stand up for yourself because no one else will, but others don’t always appreciate that.
And while Lewis was so down bad for Frances—it was so obvious to everyone but her, so cute—some of his past actions would be something I would have difficulty moving past. While so much of their conflict was about something many years past, it was still so relevant to their current day and I totally understand why it was such a big issue.
There’s a bit of a third act break up but I fully believe both of them were a bit in the wrong. And when they both basically grand gestured each other, it felt necessary for me to believe in their love story going forward.
Ugh, this book was so wonderful. It simultaneously made me laugh, cry, smile crazily, and make my brain think. I got a physical ARC of this one but I loved it so much I want a fancy edition, so if someone could make that happen, that’d be great, thanks.
