Queen B’s Decree: It’s been awhile since I read a new Kristen Callihan book so I was super excited to dive into the audio, especially since it was narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Maxine Mitchell. And I really wanted to love this one. But I didn’t.
August does something really dumb so he needs to clean up his image for his rookie NFL season, so he thinks “I’ll have a fake engagement to childhood family friend, that’ll fix it!” And Penelope has inherited her famous grandparents’ home, but can’t afford the property taxes, so she agrees. It was what happened after their initial agreement that made me less interested.
First, August has been in love with Pen for most of his life (and she with him) but OF COURSE neither of them have told the other. Pen even hasn’t kissed anyone—ever—until her fake kiss with August. But YOU KNOW that August hasn’t been celibate. It just gave me the ick.
And August’s twin sisters (May and June) who have been Pen’s best friends immediately call her a gold digger when they find out about the engagement. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that?
Teddy and Maxine helped make this still an enjoyable listen, despite my issues with the story. And I hope the next story about a Luck is less problematic.
