Queen B’s Decree: Hot Flashes and Hockey Slashes is a lighthearted romcom with main characters in their forties. And now that I am also in my forties, I appreciate a character that has back pain just from sleeping.
Olivia is attending her ex-husband’s wedding in Belize, and Roman is basically forced into being her fake boyfriend for the trip by his daughter (who is BFFs with Olivia’s daughter). I loved that Roman was all in—he just became the best boyfriend immediately. Olivia isn’t so sure this a good idea, so she needs to be convinced.
While this was a mostly fun and easy listen, there were some things that gave me pause. I didn’t love the body shaming; while trying to assure Olivia that he loves her body, Roman says something about not liking super skinny women. It’s 2025, can we not put other woman down just to push others up?
Overall it was fun and easy and I liked having older characters be the focal point.
