Queen B’s Decree: Fair warning, this is pretty dark so I would check trigger warnings before you dive in.
Briony is on the wrong side of a magical war, and gets captured by the enemy. She’s up for auction…for things both magical and not, when her academic rival from school (before the war) is the one to purchase her. ✨Remember, I said this was dark.✨
The reason I was able to read through the darkness, is that Toven is not one of the terrible human beings. Rose in Chains is an extreme slow burn, but even without true romance, Toven and Briony have a bond that cannot be denied. I enjoyed the flashbacks with their banter and bickering.
The pacing feels a bit slow, and I do think this could have been a shorter book. I’m still interested in the next to see where the twists go.
