A Collection of DNFs: Volume Seven

Sometimes I’m just in a mood and books don’t work for me. And sometimes I don’t read the blurb before I start reading. As always, these books may work for you!

⦿ Well, Actually by Mazey Eddings — I was so into the banter during the first half of the book. It was funny and witty and while the secondhand embarrassment was strong, I was able to push through. But then Eva just didn’t have any character growth; she was just mean. And wow, she has the memory of an elephant, she held a grudge over a 2 month situationship for YEARS. And Rylie, while he had grown so much and was sweet, he was too accommodating for Eva—too nice. I gave up around 70% when I realized I wasn’t enjoying myself at all.

⦿ Cat Dragon by Samantha Birch — Cat-sized dragons should be 100% my thing. But I found myself starting and stopping this book multiple times over multiple days. The words and language were excessively flowery and I just didn’t vibe with it. There was a lot of imaginative fake magic-y words, and I got so hung up on them that I felt like it was work to read, and not fun. Alas, not for me.

⦿ Learn My Lesson by Katee Robert — This is one where I really should have paid attention to the synopsis before downloading. It’s a M-M-F with a whole lot of BDSM. And I think I’ve discovered that I don’t mind BDSM when it’s used in a purely sexual space, but when it branches outside of that realm, I don’t like it. Calling Hades Master, or Meg Pet, and collars and kneeling? No thanks.

⦿ Game on by Ki Stephens — Another one where I should have read the blurb and not just been entranced by the cute cover. As soon as I realized that Ella choose to leave Oxford in England to do a study abroad in Nashville, TN for a year…for cheerleading…my eyes rolled all the way to the back of my skull. I’m sorry but have you been following the news? There is no way anyone chose to move to the United States right now. Sorry, I can’t suspend my belief enough to read this one.
