Queen B’s Decree: I was so intrigued by this one. It’s not every day you have a minister as a main character, especially a female main character.
I had totally expected that a story with a minister FMC would be full of religious overtones and the hint of forced conversion; I totally expected there to be judgment for the characters that did not attend the church. Instead Miriam treats her faith just as that—HER faith. While yes, Boone has a complex history regarding organized religion and church, Miriam never invalidates his experience and mostly just sticks to her actions; her humanity instead of her ministering.
The romance is pretty cute, although it feels a bit instalovey at times. The side characters are all integral, and Boone’s grandmother may very well be my favorite character (of all time perhaps???).
Overall, this was a cute and enjoyable read that challenged my expectations in a good way.
