Queen B’s Decree: I remembered Porter as a side character in the second book, so I was pretty excited to get his story.
Maeve has been called back to her hometown to direct the summer faculty performance of Shakespeare, and she’s back in the orbit of Porter, her brother’s best friend who she grew up with and hasn’t really seen (since that one kiss). And Porter is child-free for the month, and single, so they fall into each other.
I enjoyed their relationship; it felt like a comfortable friendship that just quickly grows once they stop ignoring the physical attraction. Despite them trying to keep it light, I liked how they both show vulnerabilities and have deep discussions. And the side characters felt integral (can I say how much I loved Maeve’s dad? He’s perfect).
I know that Porter was living in the moment, but I felt like he should have thought more about how to integrate a new partner into his kids’ lives; it seemed too easy. But this is a romance novel, I don’t need the realities of life.
I’m hoping Edith gets a love story of her own!
