Read. Reign. Repeat.

Volik by SJ Tilly

Queen B’s Decree: I have loved most every SJ Tilly book I have read, so I was super excited when I heard she was venturing into my favorite subgenre, paranormal romance. And this one started off well. Fated mates is so my jam.

Both Volik and Nix have this weird feeling, that culminates into a mate bond on the exact moment of Nix’s 30th birthday. They have never met before that moment and then BAM, bring on the lust. But then nothing else really happened? Just lots and lots of steam with some vampire lore thrown in. I never really felt like they grew an emotional connection, as the spice overpowered everything.

For a book that is over 500 pages…I can’t really explain to you the plot (was there one?). And sometimes I can totally be down with a character-driven story full of instalove, but it didn’t really work for me here. Alas, I’ll have to reread Hans instead.
