A Practical Guide to Dating a Demon by Hannah Reynolds

Queen B’s Decree: A Practical Guide to Dating a Demon started off in a fun way. Naomi, in order to fend off boys who just want to use her aunt’s name or influence, makes up a betrothal to a demon. And demons don’t just hang around her magical school, so no one will ever know, right?

Except oops the fake demon she created is real, and he’s there to honor their betrothal.

Their relationship was fun, I enjoyed how it slowly transitioned to strangers to reluctant allies to friends (with FEELINGS!). And the mystery of the scrolls, the supportive side characters (and Paz honestly) really helped make the story feel well rounded.

My issue was with the last quarter or so. I felt like Naomi maybe forgave and forgot a little too quickly, Daziel definitely trickle truthed her. Even as he’s apologizing for one thing, he’s hiding another secret or lie. And the resolution of the mystery went by so quickly at the end, it felt almost unfinished—maybe another book is coming?

Overall it was a cute listen, the narrator Rachel F. Hirsch did a fab job differentiating all the characters, but I was let down at the end.
