Love Letters for Other People by Shaylin Gandhi

Queen B’s Decree: I’m not a huge second chance trope but I am a big lover of Cyrano de Begerac, so I knew I’d need this one. In Love Letters for Other People, Nick needs a way to make some money to help support his daughter and offers a letter writing service. He just never expected that the recipient would be his long lost love (back in town!), Aubrey, receiving his letters from another man.

The story is told by alternating between the past and the present, and knowing there was something big and traumatic to break them up, I felt like I flew through the past chapters. I just had to know what happened. During the present, some of my favorite parts were Nick’s letters. He speaks so lyrically, you can feel his pining in every word. And Aubrey being a mathematician? Just a great representation of women in STEM.

Nick and Aubrey’s relationship in the present was messy (I mean…Nick is still married technically). But once the break-up reason was revealed, the mess got even worse, and I struggled and it kind of ruined the whole reading experience for me. For someone who seemed like a street smart kid, Nick does a full 180 and forgets all the basic facts of sex education and science.

I’ve loved other books by Shaylin Gandhi but sadly, this one was not for me.
