Queen B’s Decree: I was initially surprised that John Green wrote a medical nonfiction book, but it worked.
As a healthcare provider, one of the parts of my job that I find the most interesting is infectious disease, so tuberculosis was right up my alley. I thought I knew a decent amount about it…but I learned that what I knew, was like the tip of the iceberg. Showing my privilege here, but I had no idea how bad it was in other countries.
Everything is Tuberculosis is well written, well narrated (by John Green himself!), and gives a great overview of how capitalism affects healthcare. It’s mostly bleak, but there are nuggets of hope. I learned so much from this book, it’s made me want to dive into some other nonfiction reads (I still need my romance and fantasy to survive, though).
Unlike most nonfiction books I read, this one went by so quick, and I think that’s partially due to me reading as an audiobook. John Green’s narration knocked it out of the park and made it so I couldn’t put it down.
