Queen B’s Decree: I was entranced by the synopsis of this one; a duke has been having recurring dreams of a sprite and discovers a ballerina he meets looks exactly the same. Felt paranormal and mystical.
There is so much about the political climate occurring between France and England, it really helped set the scene. It helped explain the prejudice so many characters unknowingly have.
I enjoyed the back and forth between William and Helene, she had such a strong sense of self. Their relationship is a bit of a slow burn, but it feels natural. Their coming together felt as expected as the sea reaching the shore, it was bound to happen. William…well he done fucked up. But I can understand why he was so conflicted. Both of his parents are inherently selfish and left serious emotional scars on him. The revenge monster in me wanted a bit more grovel.
I can tell this is heavily researched and I always appreciate accuracy, but it was almost a bit too much plot for me? I wasn’t as interested in the political dealings of the ton—but I understand why this information helped with the storyline—but I just wanted more William and Helene. Overall, a musically lyrical and well written story.
