Must Love Christmas by Avery Cockburn

Queen B’s Decree: I have missed this series. Must Love Christmas features Garen, who is the best friend and teammate of Luca from Throwing Stones. Luca is finally moving out to be with his love Oliver full time, so Garen is on the hunt for a new flatmate who can accept his high tolerance of mess and excessive love of Christmas. By some mistake clean freak Simon comes to view the flat and meet Garen.

The connection between the two is instant but after one night together and Simon fresh out of options for rentals, the two decide to keep their relationship strictly platonic to avoid any awkwardness.

Once again, Avery Cockburn draws me in by including something non-romance based. Like always, she seems to be very adept at introducing deep topics. This time it’s a medical diagnosis and the long term recovery it entails as well as childhood trauma. I especially loved how accurate the medical terminology and events were, as that is one of my major pet peeves.

Garen and Simon were a great balance for each other. Simon is the control freak that helps Garen focus, while Garen helps Simon let loose and enjoy life. The relationship between them blossomed quickly initially, yet it took time to grow and mature from friendship to more.

Must Love Christmas was a deep and emotional read that had me wanting more.
