Queen B’s Decree: Alive and Beating is basically a collection of vignettes, all insights into the lives of people waiting for a transplant. And the emotional stress when a young woman dies unexpectedly, providing those organs.
This book had a pretty big impact on me. I may or may not have mentioned, but in my role in the hospital, I attend meetings about our transplant donations. A lot of the time it’s about statistics, procedural information, any educational updates. But sometimes it’s more real, with stories from family members or organ recipients, and those are the meetings that make me hold back my tears.
This book felt like the second half of those meetings. It was both heartwarming and heart wrenching, hopeful and despairing—just exceptionally human. One of the interesting parts of this book is how the characters are from all walks of life and how at the end of the day, it shows that we are all human beings trying to stay alive.
Thank you to the author for reaching out to me, as this was a wonderful and impactful read.
