A Collection of DNFs: Volume Two

I’ve done it again. My mood is running wild and I’ve had another collection of DNFs. Now, just because something wasn’t for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. I’ve love to hear if read and enjoyed any of these!

✨Where Shadows Meet by Patrice Caldwell — There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with this one. Just a lot of info dumping at the beginning (I should have known when there was a giant section with the royal family tree and blood lines) and I was bored and wasn’t interested enough to continue.

✨Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert — I’ve liked most of the Dark Olympus series (I’ve missed a few, just by lack of time, not interest) so a M/M pairing with Poseidon and Icarus was intriguing. But then some BDSM came into play (wasn’t expecting that, nor wanting that) and I just wasn’t into it. Sorry, but while I appreciate the switch (the brat was the dom!) but it just didn’t work for me. The narrators were top tier, though, and I almost continued to listen despite my disinterest in the content.

✨The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits by Jennifer Weiner — I got about halfway through before I finally was too mad to continue. The fat phobic characters and writing were over the top. Cass is clearly autistic (why does no one else see it???) and exceptionally talented musically but all they talk about is how fat and disgusting her body is? And there are no redeemable characteristics to her sister, Zoe. Who basically sleeps with Cass’ crush/love interest just because she wants to hurt her sister. I did read spoilers and the sisters apparently reconcile at the end and NO, that is not what I want. I want REVENGE.

✨Flirting Lessons by Jasmine Guillory — I was excited for this one. Sapphic, BIPOC leads, friends to lovers. But I got bored. I felt like it leaned upon some stereotypes and it just wasn’t working for me. Avery is the super buttoned-up, socially anxious bisexual who has never flirted with a woman. And Taylor is the laissez-faire, has sex with every woman in Napa Valley, who is gonna teach Avery to flirt. It just felt kind of contrived and both characters felt flat. I didn’t feel interested enough in continuing.
