Debts and Diamonds by Bea Paige

Queen B’s Decree: Cyn was a really amazing heroine.

Debts and Diamonds flips back and forth between the past and the present, and the past is used to highlight her interactions with the boys that one day become the Deana-Dhe. Arden, Carrick, and Lorcan essentially bully her and attempt to provoke her into speaking (Cyn is a mute secondary to a traumatic event) but each time Cyn seems to come out stronger.

In the present, she’s working off a debt she owes them, and the men don’t seem to know how to handle her. And I love that she’s got them so confused. By the end it’s clear who is running the show, and it sure isn’t these “otherworldly criminals.”

One thing I enjoyed in this book is how it flirts with the paranormal; Arden has visions, and Cyn’s skill with herbs and chemicals is almost witch-like.

And like I expected, Debts and Diamonds ends on a cliffhanger. It just leaves me aching for more, to see the Deana-Dhe really be unleashed. I can’t wait to see what they are willing to do for the heroine of their (and ours, truly) dreams.
