Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake

Queen B’s Decree: I wasn’t sure I was going to finish this book initially. Delilah was a very unlikable character to begin with. In the first chapter, she was essentially a female version of an alphahole, constantly forgetting the name of their current bed partner. It was this weird, forced into your face feeling of “look at Delilah—she doesn’t do relationships or emotions!” And then, she’s reminded that her step-sister’s wedding events are happening in two days and she signed a contract to provide photography services. How unprofessional is that? If Astrid didn’t get a hold of Delilah, she would have just flaked? Ugh, I hate it.

But I kept reading, hoping there would be some redemption. And luckily Delilah gets better as a character—becomes less one-dimensional to me. Once we get more back story, it’s much easier to relate to her and understand her strange relationship with her step-family.

The relationship between Delilah and Claire felt effortless. Their connection was instant and the attraction insanely spicy. Their intimate scenes together were written so well. I loved that they could both be vulnerable with each other.

I thought all the side characters were integral to the story, even if I can’t truly understand Astrid’s actions towards Delilah. I’m going to just accept the “kids think strange things if they don’t have a supportive adult guiding them” in order to move on. Delilah Green Doesn’t Care ended up being a very enjoyable read with interesting and varied characters. I’m hoping to see more from this author!
