The Ascenders Saga by C.L. Gaber Plus Interview

Queen B’s Decree: I heart heart heart this series. How much I loved this series came as a complete shock to me. The premise of this series is an interesting concept. High School for the Recently Departed (dead kids’ high school was my nickname when telling Queen J). Not surprising, all of the characters in this story are dead. Children who died early in life and are in a sort of limbo, stuck feeling alive while continuing to attend high school post-death. It’s a little different than high school pre-death. Grades are not important; learning is.

Well now that you have the background tidbit, let me just attempt to focus on the best part of this series. The relationships. Whether it’s the love Daniel has for his siblings, Walker’s friendships at school, or the pure love between Daniel and Walker. The suspense and story line helped keep this series going, but what makes it so great is the emotion evoked from these characters. Prince Consort B can attest – he woke up one night to me sobbing (damn you Omorrow!).

My point here is this:  this series is no ordinary young adult series. It has all the goods – interesting premise, great world building, emotional depth, and excellent character development. While some things are over the top ridiculous, it pales when comparing to the joy I felt while reading. Bottom line: this is a keeper.

Books: High School for the Recently Departed, Skypunch, and Omorrow

INTERVIEWS Q & R with Author C.L. Gaber
From Teaser Addicts Book Blog

Hi Cindy. Welcome to Teaser Addicts Book Blog.  I am delighted to have an interview with you.

Thank you so much! So thrilled to say hi! ☺

*Please tell us about your books

ASCENDERS is a book series about 17-year-old Walker Callaghan who dies in a car crash with her mother. She ascends to a special realm for those who have died young. Scientists agree that the human mind doesn’t fully form until you’re 24-years-old. It begs the question: If you died young where would you go?

Walker and others go to the Midst where it’s just like your regular life, but in a quaint small town with no rules, except do not fall in love. It’s dangerous. You don’t know how longer you’re going to stay. Walker falls hard for tat-covered bad boy Daniel Reid who must find a portal, travel back to his earthly life and find his long lost little brother, Bobby.

Walker goes with him on an epic adventure of an after-lifetime.

*At what age did you start writing?

Early! I started writing short stories when I was a little girl growing up in the Chicago suburbs. I’d write my stories and then go show my Dad who always asked me to write more!

*When writing do you prefer calm or with music?

Not so much music, but I’m a TV person. So I usually have the TV on very softly in the background. It’s usually a cooking show or something I’ve seen before….nothing I really want to watch.

I also have my two dogs running around, Colt, a German Shepherd and Georgie, an Aussie mini Labradoodle known for jumping on my computer and deleting things. Talk about a tough editor!

*Talk to us about your writing routine; what’s a typical writing day for you?

Well, I have a 16 year old daughter and a husband, so once they leave for their day (early around 6 a.m.), I usually write until noon. And then I’m also a journalist who writes about movies, so I spend the afternoon doing that work. My regular job is interviewing celebs about their new films or music projects.

*What inspires you to write?

Just about anything! It might be something someone says to me or a certain moment that captures my attention. I’m always scribbing down notes for the Ascenders books.

*What are you working on at the moment?

Finishing the final-final-final proofing of Ascenders 11:11 (Book 4), thinking about book 5 and also a spin-off.

*Can you give us a little spoiler about your next novel?

Well, in Ascenders: 11:11, Daniel doesn’t remember Walker. His memory has been wiped clean. But at 11:11 a.m. and 11:11 p.m., something pretty magical happens because this is a time when all things converge.

Let’s Have some Fun.

Now that we have talked about your writing let’s talk about you.

*Are you a morning Or night person? Morning now; night when I was younger

*Describe yourself in 3 words. Happy, curious, kind

*Favorite meal at a restaurant? Pizza any day, any way

*Name one thing that drives you crazy. Anyone who is cruel to animals

*When people look at you, they would never guess that you: Hate to drive

*How can readers discover more about you and you work? Check me out on FB or Instagram under CL Gaber

*Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

I love my readers so much. You have made this such an exciting and beautiful journey. I’m forever grateful!

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview. XOXOXOXO
